Please Note:
- Fees in cash can be accepted at the counter in case of Passport/PIO/Certificate and Attestation Services. Otherwise fees should be paid in form of Cashier Cheque/Money order/Postal order. Personal cheque is not accepted. Cheque should be on the name of the “Consulate General of India, Chicago”. If the Cheque drawn in some other name or unsigned, that will not be accepted. If the Cheque gets bounced then applicant has to pay the Cheque with penalty amount levied by Bank. If this is not done, then service if provided earlier will be cancelled.
- The OCI services fees will be accepted only in the form of Cashier Cheque/Money order/Postal order.
- The age for minors: Passport (15 years), OCI/PIO card (18 years)
- We follow the Chicago time. Do not argue with Consulate Officials showing the time at your place.
- Please do not argue showing the differences if any in the form/data available on the website/websites and fees charged. If you are paying in cash, you will be getting receipt for the same; you may also ask the receipt.
- We respect your valuable time, hence please do not shout/argue or raise your voice while at the counter; otherwise it will delay your as well as other applicants’ services. The decision of the Consulate Authorities will remain final for all the services.
- Please note that if you have acquired US (foreign) Citizenship on or before 31 May 2010 and if you have "Cancelled" stamp on your Indian passport, then there is a no requirement of acquiring "Surrender Certificate". If you do not have a cancelled stamp on Indian passport then you need to get the "Surrender Certificate". However fees for that is US$ 20/- only. For all other naturalized citizens of Indian origin surrender certificate fees will be US$ 175/-.
- The Processing time mentioned above is subject to flow of applications. If the consulate receives large number of applications then more processing time will be required for above mentioned consular services. Do not plan your travel until you receive travel documents (if you applied )from the consulate.
